The gold standard for Sleep Apnea treatment is a CPAP machine that uses positive pressure to keep the airway open. CPAP users must wear some type of facemask which is connected to the CPAP machine itself. Certain individuals may find these machines awkward to use and difficult to tolerate.
In mild to moderate cases, a dental appliance for sleep apnea can be made similar to a mouth guard in order to hold the airway open. The dental appliance works by holding your jaw in a more forward position in order to limit obstruction. These dental appliances can also be used as a snoring treatment. Bridges are made by reshaping the teeth on either side of a tooth space. Crowns are then fabricated that will fit over the reshaped teeth.
